True love looks like this...

This reminds me of Toy Story and the scene where Buzz is dressed up by Sid's sister for a tea party.

Perspective

This article helps to put the Catholic Church/Pope Benedict issues into perspective. Reading the entire thing, especially the e-mail sent to the young man, is incredibly enlightening.

Here's one excerpt that is of particular importance, in my opinion:

All of this (she is referring to how many priests have been treated poorly based on the immoral actions of a few) is a little analogous to Abu Ghraib. Because of the behavior of a distinct minority of soldiers, our whole armed forces were tarnished. Also, we see that in the NYC Public School system, the sexual abuse of students is approximately 500 times more prevalent than it is within the church, which -were that widely known- would sully the reputations of countless fine teachers.

**The red portion is my note

Pray for the Church and our Pope during this Easter season.

A model husband

It's a good thing M never reads this blog...

When he was on a business trip recently, some other (female) veterinarians went to dinner with him and commented to him, multiple times, that he looks like a model. Then, the female owner of the restaurant came by and told him that he's "HOT!" M was so embarrassed, especially given that these women were in their forties or fifties.

I had to giggle-- it's always nice to see my husband through other women's eyes. In some ways I've grown accustomed to his utter hotness and can take it for granted. Now, I'm checking him out again. Whoo-hoo, hot stuff!

7 Quick Takes Friday (Vol. 7)

1. We've seen real progress in the potty training department! C went three days with NO wet pull-ups! Maybe the Roman Empire would have lasted if they had just persisted with potty training in the face of seemingly insurmountable odds .

2. My mother-in-law has magical powers. Thankfully she uses them for good, such as helping me organize my bathroom (ok, doing it for me mostly). Everyone should have a fairy mother-in-law.

3. Taxxxxxxxxxxxxxxes.......... (Lisa writhes in agony on the floor). Every year I vow that I will have them done by February, and that I will keep monthly records for the next year so that taxes will be a cinch. And every year I end up writing in agony. But next year...

4. My birthday simply cannot come soon enough. I'm ready to be [30+]. It makes me feel powerful.

5. The elliptical machine and I are bonding, in hope that the fat currently bonded to me will take a hike.

6. Only 1-2 weeks left on Prednisone. Thank. You. Lord.

7. April showers bring May flowers, but March showers bring weeds. LOTS of them. And VERY tall grass. Time to break out the weed eater and get to work this weekend.

7 Quick Takes Friday (Vol. 6)

1. Welcome back to my computer! And may the force be with this hard drive. And may I be more vigilant about backing up ALL of my files. And may I catch up on my posts, since I have some great pics from the last few weeks.

2. C and I are geared up to watch the Aggies dominate in March Madness while I put away the laundry. Gig 'em, Ags! The first game starts soon!

3. Crystal, my next-door neighbor, got me hooked on Words With Friends on the iPhone. I love it! I'm getting to flex my brain throughout the day to score high points. It's like Scrabble, for anyone not familiar with what I'm talking about. OK, it's EXACTLY Scrabble, except that you and your opponent go back and forth on your own schedule.

4. It may be time to start H on solid food. He is feeding 'round the clock again, and I'm having trouble keeping up.

5. Potty training= why the Roman Empire fell, I'm sure. They just got so tired of taking the toddlers to the toilet every 15 minutes and of washing panties after accidents. C is a champ, but her mother is slowly losing steam.

6. I love toddlers in rain boots. Too cute.

7. I have so much around my house to clean/organize/put away, and I have NO MOTIVATION. Even though my in-laws will be here in a few hours. I am exhausted from life today. Sigh. (But don't get me wrong, I'm actually having a great day. I just need a few more hours of sleep.)

St. Joseph, pray for us!

OK, so I've done a pretty good job of keeping politics out of this blog. This may be the only political post you'll see here. However, I was burned up when Nancy Pelosi had the audacity to talk about how today is the feast day of St. Joseph the Worker (actually, it's not... that's in May. Today is St. Joseph, the husband of Mary. I'll get to that in a second) and that Catholics pray TO St. Joseph (really? We do?) and that it's a special day because she's calling on him to get the health care bill passed for workers.

1) I find it incredibly insulting that she would use a man, whom God chose to raise His son, in order to push forward legislation that allows public funds to be used to end the lives of unexpected and unwanted children. The fact that today's feast day celebrates LIFE and acceptance of unexpected circumstances and trust in God just makes it all the more insensitive of her.

2) I'm too steamed up now to bother with a second point. See number 1 again. The end. I'm going to go elliptical (that's right, I just turned it into a verb) off my frustration.

PS I find the comments associated with the linked YouTube video vulgar, and don't advocate them. It's the only video I could find of this, though. Please ignore the comments.

Perhaps I should not homeschool my children

Occasionally I contemplate a desire to homeschool my kids. Then I think about how much college will cost by the time my children are 18 and I reconsider a bit. Plus I'm not incredibly organized (ok, so I'm not organized AT ALL).

And then, there are incidents like what happened just now...

I read about the ustream video of an owl whose eggs are about to hatch, so I went to the site and showed my daughter, C. A few minutes later I glanced at it again and noticed a soft fluffy thing in the box with the owl and excitedly called C over to see the adorable baby that must have hatched.

Oops.

It was a bunny rabbit.

And the owl ate it.

Whole.

I may have just scarred my child for life. Either that, or I'm an amazing homeschooling mother and just taught my daughter about the food chain.

Yeah, that's what I'm going with.
